it is time for weather. mike, thanks for staying up with us. >> thanks for having me. >> wild weather tonight for a while. >> things quieting down. looking at some of the damage, maybe over 80 miles per hour across portions of the chicago area. fortunately it was fairly isolated. damage nonetheless. looks like things are widing down now for the rest of the

night. and the storms were fairly brief across the area. you can see the thunderstorms briefly. some heavy rain and then things quieted down for much of the rest of the evening. although we have showers and storms that return to part of the area tonight. the rainfall totals have been meager. we could use rain but we haven't seen anything excessive as far as rainfall is concerned. most of the totals under half an inch across the area. and the heavier totals are to the north of the city. evergreen park one of the heavier sections at about a third of an inch. we have a cold front pushing through. but we're not seeing a whole lot of cool air behind this. no relief from that. temperatures still 68 right now at mid way. and the rainfall has been fairly light. some areas saw little or no rain. temperatures as far as the dew point is concerned, still in

the 60s. this mugginess will be with us for a couple more days. until friday and saturday. here's some of the wind gusts. we had one of 72 miles per hour at lake in the hills. and 65 in des plaines. again looking at some of the damage and video, some of the wind gusts may have been higher than that. things have quieted down. all the watches and warnings are over with. we still have some in northern missouri and wisconsin but other than that it's clear. now in michigan and over lake huron. and another cluster of storms north and west of that that extends into kansas and nebraska. looks like most of this activity is going to stay south of the city. looks like most of the rain south of the i-88 and eisenhower corridor.

we've got the heaviest rain occurring over southern porter county. another section of showers. but looks like things will be quieting down as the evening wears on. all this thunderstorm activity set up by some incredible summertime heat clashing with this very falllike area. cooler air trying to trickle in behind this system. we won't cool down that much because the front will get set on top ofs. it will be cooler tomorrow but not as cool as the temperatures to the north. 40s in sections of minnesota and wisconsin. midway 68 and 68 degrees at the lake front. little bit of fog out there. but the fog situation could be worse by morning. looks like some could be quite dense late tonight and early tomorrow morning. that will lift and leave us with plenty of clouds tomorrow. so here's the forecast for

tonight. scattered showers, mainly southern sections. and that will be winding down other the next couple of hours. a low tonight of around 66 degrees. southwest winds switching to the north. tomorrow early morning fog otherwise mainly cloudy. spotty showers but most of the day will be dry. just a passing shower or two with a high of 76 degrees. tomorrow night warm front looks back north again and we could be close to 90 degrees again. tomorrow is the first day of fall and we're still talking temps of 90 degrees. we'll tell you more coming up with the seven-day in a few minutes. >> thank you. just how big can a pumpkin grow? three friends in mercer county, west virginia grew a 160- pounder last year.

summer. it felt summerlike. our high was 88 degrees. but cooler tomorrow. very appropriately. we've got a cool front pushing through the area. the cool weather won't last. we had some thunderstorms over the southern suburbs and indiana. but they're weakening. the severe weather threat is over with. temperatures still fairly mild in the 60s. we're not going to drop off temperaturewise despite the passage of the cool front. and the front will sit on top of us tomorrow. and some spotty showers and won't be an all day rain. plenty of clouds with a peek or two of sun. then the front lifts north of the area on sunday excuse me on wednesday -- excuse me on thursday actually. that will mean another surge of summerlike air for the chicago area. but cooler temperatures arrive for the weekend. heavier rains in the next 24 hours. and here are the highs for tomorrow.

if you want some cooler weather, head north. 50s across sections of northern wisconsin. temperatures here in the chicago area will be right around 75 for the high. thursday it's 88 for the high. 80 on friday. then here comes the cooler weather for the weekend, back to normal for this time of year. highs in the lower 70s. and for the bears game on monday, does not look like the weather will be a factor for the game. about 78 and a little bit of a breeze. other than that, it should be dry. >> thank you. that is the these for this early wednesday morning. i'm micah materre. we leave you with the chicago tribune photos of the day. ♪[ music ]
